Musical play “Obra ni Juan” on tour across Mindanao for the month of February

PHILIPPINE Stagers Foundation presents a musical play about the life of Juan Luna that you’ve never seen before in Obra ni Juan. It was written and directed by Philippine Stagers’ founder, Vince Tañada; and musical direction by Pipo Cifran.

The play was already performed in theaters and schools across Luzon and Visayaz last year. This February 2018, there will be more than 20 shows in several cities in Mindanao, including Iligan City, Cagayan de Oro, Malaybalay, Tangub City and Surigao. The show starts from February 12 to 23.

Two Juan Lunas

The play not only tells the life story of Juan Luna, but also gives us a glimpse on what is going on in his mind.

Award-winning actor and Philippine Stagers’ founder Atty. Vince Tañada performs as Juan Luna’s alter ego. He started acting at a young age, and received his training for theatre in New York. When he went back to the Philippines, he was part of the play, Hiblang Abo which eventually earned him a nomination in Gawad CCP as Best Actor. He was also part of several theater plays, including Oh, Moises!, Cory in EDSA, Bonifacio: Isang Sarsuela, Filipinas 1941, and more. He’s not only active in theater, but also, active in movies, like his recent film Esoterika Maynila directed by Elwood Perez.

Patrick Libao is playing the title role. He’s a critically acclaimed actor, and writer. One of the most notable plays he was part of was Limitless Production’s Titan’s Age of Ice, Dalanghita Production’s Tatlong Linggong Pag-ibig, Ako si Ninoy, Joe: A Filipino Rockssical, and Block Box Productions’ Mula sa Buwan. He earned several acting nominations in Aliw Awards and Broadway World.

Obra ni Juan’s Repertoire

Not only he wrote and directed the play, Vince also wrote the lyrics of the songs used in the play. Pipo Cifra, on the other hand, orchestrated the music.
