LAST sunday, March 25, people who watch the farewell gala of Obra ni Juan are in awe. They applauded every great scene from the very start of act 1 until the end. They gave a great standing ovation at the curtain call. The play was held at the auditorium of St. Scholastica’s College, Manila.
After the play, a featured special guest, the King of Talk Boy Abunda, appeared on stage and delivered an inspirational message. Despite of the fact that the play took 2 1/2 hours, he told the audience that it seemed two minutes, because of the beauty and tremendous feelings he felt while he’s watching it.
Aside from Boy Abunda, the majority of the audience is either from the entertainment press or well-known performing art elites, including Menggie Cobarrubias, Frank G. Rivera, George Vail Kabristante, Francis G. Matheu, PETA’s Frank G. Rivera, and Gardy Labad. Also, filmmakers and friends of Director Tañada came to grace the event as well, namely Directors Ronald Carballo, Emman dela Cruz, Arman Reyes, photographer Mars Lu, production designer nonpareil Ben Payumo, and Singapore’s Sweetheart Tori Garcia. Not only that, even the U.S. delegation and group of people who will coordinate the play’s landing on the U.S. soon, watched the farewell gala, and they were all so entertained.
There is no official announcement for the next production made by PSF, but I’m sure it will be a blast like Obra ni Juan.
