TONY award winning, M. Butterfly, marks its 30th anniversary. That’s why Frontrow Entertainment and Filipino Broadway producer Jhett Tolentino brings you this one of the most celebrated plays in the Philippines.
Last Monday, Raymond Francisco posted on his Facebook page that he will play a leading role as a Peking opera actor named, Song Liling. So far, there’s no further announcement on who will play the role of René Gallimard, a French diplomat who falls in love with Song Liling.
There were also an announcement last week about an open audition for 11 additional casts. They are looking for 3 actors, 3 actresses, and 5 dancers for the play. All information for the role are stated on the link here. The audition will happen at Sikat Studio in Tomas Morato, Diliman, Quezon City on April 27 (1:00 -7:00 PM) and April 28 (10 AM – 6 PM).
M. Butterfly is a play by David Henry Hwang. It’s loosely based on a true story about the relationship between French diplomat named René Gallimard and Song Liling, a Peking opera singer. The play premiered on Broadway in 1988 and won the 1988 Tony Award for Best Play.
