Philippine Delegates Cannes Film Festival

THE FESTIVAL DE CANNES (Cannes Film Festival) is one of the biggest and most prestigious international film festivals in the world. Its mission to draw attention to and raise the profile of films, with the aim of contributing towards the development of cinema, boosting the film industry worldwide and celebrating cinema at an international level.

Under Festival de Cannes is the Marché du Film, the film market which promotes the dual cultural and economic nature of cinema, and in 2019, the Marché du Film will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. It boasts inexact of 12,000 participants and it is the world’s leading market, serving to add dynamism to the global film industry. It forms an integral part of the Festival.on the sense that it also facilitates networking and provides professionals with the services and tools they need in order to exchange information, hold negotiations and uncover new opportunities.

There is good news!

Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chair & CEO Liza Dino Seguerra hosted a special send off presscon for the Philippine delegates to the Cannes Filmfest in France from May 15 to 21, 2019.

The Philippines has been chosen as the only Asian country in the Spotlight event of the Marché du Film’s Cannes Producers Network that brings producers from all over the world to network with other producers for possible co-productions.

The FDCP is an annual participant in the Marché du Film and supports the delegates of both the film market and the delegates in the Festival. This year, FDCP is hosting a Marché du Film Pavilon with Singapore, as well as representing the Spotlight on the Philippines during the Cannes Producers Network.

The Cannes Producers Network has been held in the past fifteen years during Marché Du Film which allows for producers all over the world to participate in meetings and events specifically designed to encourage international co-production for films and facilitate networking. For each day of the Network, there is a Spotlight country/organization that features their producers at the beginning of the breakfast. There will be a quick introduction for the country and then followed by an omnibus video of their featured producers.

This year, it’s happening from May 15-21, 2019 at the Plage de Palmes with Philippines as the Spotlight Country on May 21, 2019.

The featured Filipino Delegation in Festival De Cannes and Marché Du Film are “The Halt” (Ang Hupa) by Lav Diaz (Spring Films) at the Directors Fortnight; “The Manila Lover” of Johanna Pyykkö featuring our Angeli Bayani at the Semaine dela Critique; and “Ophelia” by Celina Mae Medina, from her Thesis in Mapua in The Short Film Corner.

The delegates flying with Chair Liza to Cannes in Paris are Madonna Tarrayo from Unitel, Perci Intalan of IdeaFirst Company, Monster Jimenez from Arkeofilms, Treb Monteras from Dogzilla, Dan Villegas from Project 8 Projects, Kris Anthony Gazmen from Blacksheep, Michaela Tadena from Media East Production, Pamela Reyes from Create Cinema and Arleen Cuevas from Cinematografica, with ABS-CBN Films’ Enrico Santos as guest of honor.

They will all be featured in the Philippine Pavillion at Pavillion 114 along the Village International Riviera from May 14 to 23, 2019 and will be joined by other outfits like Black Ops Studio, Concept One, Epicmedia, Rocketsheep Studio, Sine Olivia, TBA Studios, Visioncapture to build partnertships with content buyers and sellers.

The FDCP is shouldering the delegates’ tickets (to and from Cannes).
