AFTER Iza Calzado‘s contract signing with Shandii Bacolod‘s Team MSB for the “Culion” project of Ricky Lee and Alvin Yapan, and coming on board as a co-producer, the next important character has surfaced.

Meryll Soriano will portray one of the three lead characters, as Ditas in the film.

“Dream come true for me ‘yung makagawa ako ng film na si tito Ricky (Lee) ang sumulat. And to be directed by Alvin Yapan. At mag-trabaho sa Team MSB of Shadii.

“We go a long way. Alam na niya ang mga pinagdaanan ko. Kaya when this was given to me, shout for joy lang ako. Alam ko na rin kasi how Shandii works. Nagkakasundo kami sa mga principles o ‘yung mva nakikita naning nangyayari sa palogid amd what we want to do about it. Sana!

But deep inside, she is really devastated. Si Ditas ‘yung pagod na pagod na sa buhay. Nawala na ‘yung hope.

“The story itself is a good conversation piece. Nagkaroon ng stigma. This is a story to tell.people.how to value thier lives. And what are we going to do about it.

“Hanggang ngayon naman, we see a lot of suicidal people. May mga kakilala akong ganoon. So, this is a story that needs ti be told. No, I don’t mind being deglamorized here. Kay Ditas, malala ‘yung sugat niya sa mukha. Sabi ko, the dirtier, the ickier, walang problema sa akin. May levels.

“This will be my first time in Culion. Nakapunta ako noon in Cuyo, sa Palawan. When we did “Ploning”. Sa Puerto Princesa. Marami tayong hindi pa nalalaman about Culi9n kaya dapat lang na i-share natin. Through this movie.”

Though it has been a closed chapter in her life already, when we got to talk about her son, Eli, the mother in Meryll surfaced.

“Iba na ang panahon pero ang pagaalaga natin sa mga anak natin eh, hindi magbabago. When I was younger, problematic din ako. Maswerte lang ako dahil I had a strong support system. Dumaan din sa mga depression. Pero unless ikaw ang nakakaranas noon, madali lang sabihin na it’s all in the mind. But it’s not. Noon, tingin sa ‘yo baliw ka lang. Kaya, I am excited to tell this story.

“Waiting pa kami sa ikatlong girl. Ang alam ko, kasama namin si Joem (Bascon) and a model-actor. Ang third girl, sabi ni Shandii needs to have the Doris Day look. ‘Yun ang peg. During those times, si Doris Day ang sikat na singer. So, ang look ng third friend namin ni Iza, ganoon. Na hinahabol sa kanya ng mga lalake.

“Without a doubt, I agree na, makasali ito sa MMFF this year.

“Thrilled to be officially part of the film “Culion”.

“I am humbled by this project that tells a powerful story about women, history, culture and our country.

“This film is personally an important one for me to be part of as I am given a chance to give life to one of Sir Ricky Lee’s characters in a gripping story inspired from true events. Gives me a powerful voice as an actor and as a human being. And it is a dream come true. Surrounded by an amazing team who makes films with their whole heart and soul. To be directed by an educator, Alvin Yapan and produced by my dear friend Shandii Bacolod, an inspiration to me.

“We have our angels who have an extraordinary passion for helping and contributing to change.

“And of course, to be working alongside my friends and people I truly love and believe in.

“This film is truly a gift.”

The deal was sealed. Meryll is Ditas. Shoot starts in June 2019.
