AFTER their successful nationwide tour of Supremo Redux, Atty. Vince Tañada and the rest of Philippine Stagers Foundation invited the bloggers and the media to the presscon of their latest musical play: Sindak 1941.

Focusing on ordinary Filipinos

The new play focuses on the story of ordinary Filipinos during World War II in 1941. Atty. Vince explained that it has way different story than his previous masterpiece, Filipinas 1941.

“[Sindak 1941] is an entirely new musical… I have not extended my research about the simple Filipinos in the Japanese occupation.

“In fact, the 2014 musical [Filipinas 1941] is about the Philippine presidents: Quezon and Laurel, and Douglas MacArthur as well. In this particular play, we don’t have [the ordinary Filipinos] in the musical…

“We are focus more on the resiliency, the sacrifices of the Filipinos in order for the young people to relate.” Atty. Vince explained.

MacArthur Controversy

He mentioned his years of extensive research about Philippine history during the Japanese occupation. He flew to Japan and discovered a very interesting controversy about General Douglas MacArthur.

“Back in 2014, Patrick [Libao] and I went to Japan because we discovered a historian by a name of Carol Petillo who wrote the book about MacArthur Controversy.

“MacArthur Controversy is actually about Douglas MacArthur receiving around US$500,000 for him to come back in the Philippines.

“So, the iconic ‘I shall return’ is not actually the basis for us to have MacArthur as the salvation of the Filipino people, but more than that he’s was actually payed by Quezon. And the money came from the Philippine Treasury for him to come back. It’s a good controversy just a quite good subject for the musical.” Said Vince.
