BELLE DOULEUR” (Beautiful Pain) is Atty. Joji Alonzo‘s first time in directing. She and writer Therese Cayaba wrote a story about a self-made woman in her late 40s bent on living on her own for the rest of her days, despite societal pressures to settle down with someone.

Colleague EJ Salut tells me he is reminded of only me about this movie which received rave reviews as a competition entry at the 2019 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. Dubbed as the sexiest May-December love affair of the year, it will have its nationwide theatrical release on August 14, 2019.

And Direk Atty.’s only choice to portray Elizabeth is Mylene Dizon, who is already contemplating on living the life of a farmer somewhere in the suburbs with her beau and kids. She said she couldn’t go wrong with a Mylene Dizon.

Kit Thompson, Elizabeth’s Josh was recommended to Direk Atty. But just the same he sent a demo of his audition piece.

Said Mylene, “I had to break my own shell first. But even with the intimate scenes of protecting myself, there was a technique naman. So it was easier for me to get into the emotions.”

Much talked about was Kit’s frontal in the movie?

“Atty. was very protective of me. Pinapag-cover niya agad ako. And even advised me na i-save ko ‘yun for my next big movie.”

Direk Atty. said she had to clean what was not supposed to be seen.

“May lumitaw kasi. He was very comfortable naman pero it was not needed in the scene. Marami pang ibang projects para i-prove how sexy he can get.”

Actors with no qualms, no wonder the producer, director and writer didn’t have a hard time showing one of best movies in #Cinemalaya2019.

What are her conflicts kaya that her friends convinced her to do something “stupid, reckless and irresponsible.”Me? All I know was that I just was in love. At the wrong place. At the wrong time. And wrong person.

Beautiful. Painful. Now=Freedom!
