LOLA IGNA” of direk Eduardo Roy, Jr. is one of the three arthouse films under the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino Sandaan Showcase by Found Films and EMBA Productions, movie enthusiasts and the viewing public will see in cinemas starting on September 13, 2019.

The film, headlined by Ms. Angie Ferro with Yves Flores, Maria Isabel Lopez and Meryll Soriano explored the story from the point of view of a granddaughter and a great-great grandson and the dynamics of their relationship with their great-great grandmother. It’s about emotions and coping as one nears the end of life.

Ms. Angie is known as the iconic character actress. Angelica “Angie” Caballero Ferro started as a theater actor in PETA in 1969,as one of its pioneer resident actors.
and her film and TV credits consist of nearly a hundred, with notable performances on “Atsay” and “Patayin sa SIndak si Barbara“.

As we spoke during the press conference of her movie, as “Lola Igna”, Ms. Angie was very thankful to Direk Roy and the people who gave her the opportunity to
essay the role and as she said about her being an actress, “That I still want to act whenever there are projects like this that come my way. Nakaka-miss talaga siya.
To be working with the new generation. Nagpapalakas pa rin ito sa akin. At 92 years old, masarap na pakiramdam pa rin ‘yung naa-appreciate ka ng mga kasama mo sa
industriya.

Coinciding with the celebration of 100 Years of Philippine Cinema, “Lola Igna” serves as one inspiration to make films that would define the Philippine film industry as it celebrates its 100th year.”

ANOTHER not to be missed movie which will be showcased in this year’s Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019 is one is the one top billed by the GREAT Ms. Anita Linda!

Director Adolf Alix, Jr. says, “This year is the centennial of Philippine cinema. From the first light coming from the projector of the first film about the life
of our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal , cinema has evolved into a lot of shapes.

“CIRCA” is a film in which I want to confront the demons surrounding the old and the new form of cinema. Of what is pure and classic. Of what is new and stylistic.
I am interested to know the ghosts of the past and how a simple wish of a dying woman can open up a Pandora’s box full of memories, emotions, pains and unresolved issues about what we love and hate about cinema. The past always remains to be a thing to be looked upon but I think it is important as a filmmaker to be able to understand the currents of what used to be, to be able to meet with the waves of the present. The interplay of actors and various characters during the reunion will create a microcosm of what used to matter about the craft of film making.

“Their voices will speak against the walls of death echoed in the old structure of the mansion which used to be the hub of the old producer’s studio system.
Michael (Enchong Dee) represents the new filmmaker. He may look at old films as references for what he wants to do but it is important to live and breathe cinema more than
evoke a past.

“In the end, Donya Atang (Ms. Anita) maybe cinema personified-her dying wish maybe what films are all about.”

A fine ensemble has been created by Direk Adolf with Cannes Best Actress Jaclyn Jose, multi-awarded actors Gina Alajar, Ricky Davao, and Echong. with special roles by Perla Bautista, Rustica Carpio, Alessandra de Rossi, Joel Saracho, Liza Lorena, Rosanna Roces and more.

“Circa” not only touches on the issues of nostalgia, but also is a drama about a family that wrestles between the past and the future as Donya Atang’s siblings are beset with the conflicts of what to do with their family’s legacy.

The great Eddie Garcia is also in the film.

And a bit of an anecdote from direk and his artists shared that in a scene with the great Anita as Donya Atang, she adlibbed a line to Sir Eddie.

“Ingat ka. Baka madapa ka”.

“There is no end. There is no beginning. There is only the infinite passion of life.” – Federico Fellini.

Last March, the film won the White Light Post-Production Award in the 17th HongKong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) which allowed the film to do post-production in one of Thailand’s premiere post production facilities-White Light Studio.
