THE “P” TALKS!
BY: Pilar Mateo
THIS coming Saturday, December 14, 2019, “Culion” will have its premiere where the cast and crew spent harrowing days and nights (because of a typhoon) to finish a project that will be etched in the minds of the Filipinos, its history and culture.
As promised by iOptions producers Gilie and Peter Sing and Team MSB’s Shandii Bacolod, the people of Culion in Palawan will have the first dib at the movie where their very own Culion Kalinagan Ensemble became a part of.
Their story, through the pen of genius scriptwriter Ricky Lee, the intuitive mind of direk Alvin Yapan and the “eyes” of cinematographer Neil Daza, created the story of friendship among Ditas, Doris and Ana (portrayed by Jasmine Curtis Smith, Meryll Sotiano and Iza Calzado), about love and family in a time of war where hope and faith were dimming and slipping away from everyone’s grasp.
Recently, Culion’s Museum, which has withstood the test of time was recently inaugurated with the help of “Culion” producers which was attended by some of the movies artists like Mike Liwag.
Mike shared the experience.
“Sobrang overwhelming. Nakakaiyak and nakaka-touch at the same time. Kasi 100 percent yung changes na nakita ko from the 1st time na pagpunta ko nung nag-shoot kami.
“It’s a whole new experience. Kasi very interactive na yung pagkakagawa ng Museum. Plus the fact na dahil nga interactive na siya, mas malalaman, mas mararamdaman at mas maiintindihan ng mga tao ang pinagdaanan ng mga tao noon sa Culion. It has so much feels. Pagpasok ko doon, talagang dama mo lahat ng mga nangyari noon. And some of us were crying or naluluha. It always touches our hearts kahit ilang beses mo puntahan. It’s our history and so dapat talaga siya puntahan at ma-experience ng bawat Pilipino kasi parte ito ng kasaysayan. Panahon na para makilala ng masinsinan at madibdiban ang kuwento ng “Culion”.
AT the Grand Media Launch of “Culion” at the Monet 1 Ballroom of Novotel Hotel in Cubao, one of its stars, Meryll Soriano gave a piece of her mind about the coming MMFF (Metro Manila Film Festival) 2019.
About the other contenders in the coming festival. Stars being pitied against each other.
“I am very, very happy for Juday kasi she’s a very, very dear friend and she’s been a family at wala naman talagang kuwestiyon na napakagaling niyang artista at kasama ko rin po siya sa “Starla”.
“Hanggang ngayon ay namamangha kaming mga kasama niya kung gaano siya kahusay gumanap. ‘Yung pagiging frontrunner namin sa Best Actress is something that I’ll always think that the awards nights are healthy competitions.
Kaya, support na lang each other at kung sinuman ang manalo, let’s celebrate, wala dapat kumpetisyon sa mga ganito.”
Added Iza Calzado, “I just want to address something, eversince Culion was voted for the MMFF 2019, I was very, very happy na for Juday. I sent her a message, the moment I saw it sabi ko pa nga, it’s about time na makita ng buong mundo ang mga mata ni Mara (Juday’s role in “Mara Clara”).
“Kasi napakatagal na niya sa industriya at idolo ko talaga siya. Bilang respeto with Judy Ann as the actress, the woman and the human being, I really look up to her.”
I cluded in the cast of thie epic and historical love story are Suzette Ranillo, Mark Liwag, Simon Ibarra, Lee O’Brian, Joel Saracho, Mai Fanglayan, Nico Locco, Yam Mercado, Upeng Fernandez, Erlinda Villalobos, Mayen Estanero, Aaron Concepcion, Nikko Delos Santos, Rex Lantano, Jay Garcia, Elle Velasco, Jack Love Falcis, Tommy Roca, Ruth Alferez, Roven Alejandro, Raflesia Bravo, Luminita Gamboa, Jai Astor, Elisa Weber, DMS Boongaling, Marcus Dreeke, Jaepheth Cortez, with Earl Andrew Figueroa, Mercedes Cabral and the Culion Kalinangan Ensemble.
