THE “P” TALKS!

THE black carpet premiere of iOptions Ventures and Team MSB’s “Culion” was gracednot just by showbiz denizens but those in politics as well.
Senator Panfilo Lacson’s presence in the successful black carpet event was significant.
According to Peter Sing, iOptions President and CEO, it was Senator Lacson who suggested to him to make a movie about the island and its history. That was years ago.
Now, the genius scriptwriter Ricky Lee was able to write a story from the stories of the people and their descendants in the once dim island and has now risen to be a tourist destination of the Filipinos and the world.
“The process was tedious,” shares by Shandii Bacolod of Team MSB.
“Kasi, parang ayaw na rin nga nilang ipagalaw ang Culion in the sense na kung tungkol sa sakit at paulit-ulit na lang na ‘yun ang ipi-feature sa kaliwa’t kanang docus at iba pang palabas, wala naman daw itong naitutulong sa gusto na nilang maipakita sa isla.”
During the black carpet event in Megamall (they had a first in Culion for the people to have a first look at it in the World Premiere), muffled sobs can be heard, shrieks of laughter, too every now and then. But when the main cast are giving their scenes, their moments shine.
As Anna, Doris and Ditas with Kanor and Jaime (Iza Calzado, Jasmine Curtis Smith, Meryll Soriano, Joem Badcon and Mike Liwag) emerge from their characters, people are in awe with each persona.
“Kanya-kanyang hugot and yet it’s an ensemble acting. Maski ang pinaka-maliit na role, may halaga.”
And “maliit na role” was tasked in an actor.of high caliber-as John Lloyd Cruz tackled the role of Greg.
The applause, shrieks, shouts after his a few moments scene with Meryll almost broke the house down.
Pokwang, one of the actors in the movie, Lee Brian’s wife, who herself has a movie, too in the MMFF 2019 wasn’t able to contain what she felt as she saw the endearing scene!
People reacted and spoke about it. and even looking forward to a recognition to be given to the actor for that brief scene. (A la Viola Davis at the Oscars?).
IT was Iza Calzado’s first time after a long time (the last being Panday 2) that she participated again at the Parade of Stars.
For “Culion”, Iza had a swell time with her co-actors on the float that lasted for about three to four hours.
“Naging busy na rin ako that time and wala naman natatapat na pang-festival. Now, we so enjoyed it. Busog ang mga Ate mo. May kanya-kanya baon. May pa-sandwich pa ang Mamang Pokwang. Then also, natatapat din ‘ata na am usually out-of-the country. Then, our wedding. Ang dami na palang nangyari.”
“Culion” boasts of a wonderful cast. Add to that the Culion Kalinangan Ensemble who were the most proud when they saw the finished product.
Dr. Arturo Cunanan is so thankful. They can now host of their Museum and Archives which has been renovated just recently so people who will visit can learn more and revisit the past of the island.
This Christmas Season, make “Culion” first on the list of the 8 entries in the Metro Manila Film Festival. It is rated PG and Graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
Merry Christmas. Fill it with kindness, hope and faith. And the greatest of all-Love!
