The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will hold its 4th Annual Film Ambassadors’ Night (FAN) at the Maybank Theater for the Performing Arts at Bonifacio Global City on Sunday, February 9.
The event honors film artists in varying capacities whose work was shown in an international film festival in 2019. There will be 63 honorees in this year’s celebration of Filipino film artists.
The FAN honorees on Sunday are divided into seven categories: short films, TV awards, technical & creative awards, actors, full-length films, special citations, and A-Listers.
The last-mentioned category celebrates those who won awards in the most prestigious “A-List” international film festivals around the world. They actually headline the honorees.
The “A-List” film festivals include the big 3: Cannes, Venice, and Berlin, as well as a select number of major festivals around the globe according to the list of FIAPF.
The A-Listers this year include Brillante Mendoza’s Mindanao, winning Best Narrative Film; Judy Ann Santos as Best Actress in the Cairo International Film Festival in Egypt; Jun Robles Lana for his best director win for Kalel, 15, in the 2019 Tallinn Blacknights International Film Festival; and the documentary film Aswang, directed by Alyx Ayn Arumpac which won the Fipresci Prize in International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), the most prestigious film festival in the field of documentary filmmaking.
Raymund Ribay Guttierez’s film “Verdict,” the official Philippine submission to this year’s Oscars, holds the highest award our country has achieved in 2019, having claimed the Special Jury Prize in the Orizzonti section of the 2019 Venice International Film Festival.
Other honorary ‘Film Ambassadors’ include Maja Salvador for her ‘Best Actress’ performance in Wildflower, Bea Alonzo for her ‘Asian Stars Up Next Award,’ and the critically acclaimed, multi-award-winning films “Signal Rock” (Chito Rono, director) and “Balangiga: Howling Wilderness (Khavn Dela Cruz, director).
The late Kristoffer King will receive posthumous honors for his role in “Kristo” as well.
The late veteran actors Eddie Garcia and Tony Mabesa, who starred in Joel Lamangan’s award-winning “Rainbow’s Sunset,” will also receive posthumous honors at the FAN. Adding to their already illustrious careers, both actors tied in the “Best Actor” category during the 52nd Worldfest Houston International Film Festival and were part of the “Best Ensemble Cast” victory in New York’s International Film Festival 2019 alongside the rest of Rainbow’s Sunset’s lead cast.
EXEMPLIFYING THE BEST
“These ‘Film Ambassadors’ display the diversity and the wide spectrum of our national film industry. They exemplify the best that Philippine cinema has to offer, and as its cream of the crop they promote Philippine cinema internationally, therefore empowering our local film industry and strengthening our cultural heritage,” FDCP Chair Liza Dino said.
The new honorees will join the over 200 filmmakers and other personalities of the film industry who have been recognized by FDCP for their success in the international arena since the event’s inaugural night in 2017.
Past honorees have featured and covered the various spheres of Philippine cinema, from blockbuster films such as The Hows of Us starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla to indie filmmakers such as Lav Diaz and Kidlat Tahimik.
HAVING a hard time as to where to spend your Valentine’s Night with your Date?
Jamie Rivera and Basil Valdez will have a show on the eve of Valentine’s Day, on February 13, 2020 at the Mayuree Grand Ballroom of Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati.

Produced by PLA Events and Nikki Renemer Caranguian, with Star Events as media partner, it is directed by Adonis Tabanda.
“This is the first time we are teaming upnin a concert. Though in the past nagkakasalubungan lang kami sa mga events or shows ng other artists. It is such a breeze to be working with the Inspirational Diva,” mused Basil.
“I am thankful na as I age, ngayon ko mas naiintindihan the messages na laman ng aking mga songs. Dahil in my personal life, tumatama talaga with whatever situation I am in. Makasalanan din akong tao. And with the songs na ginawa for me by the greats like George Canseco, I only interpreted them. But over time kapag pinapakinggan ko rin sila, parang yes, it’s the Lord na bumubulong o nagsasabi na sa akin ng mga salita sa kanta. ‘Cast your burdens upon Me’…And more!”
More than a romantic evening with the love of your life, Jamie and Basil promises this to be one memorable night filled with songs that are timelss hits and inspirational anthems. Secure your tickets now at Ticketworld for P6,500 inclusive of dinner and unlimited drinks. Don’t get drunk!
